The Super South Poster Design Competition is an international poster call organised by Super South Summit in Atlanta and curated by Poster Territory, led by Olga Severina. The brief is "Designing the Future We Imagine": show the future you want to live in. Around 100 selected posters are printed and exhibited at the Super South Summit at the Georgia Aquarium in March 2027, and $5,000+ in prizes is shared between the winners. The deadline is 15 January 2027.

The suggested themes are circularity, regenerative design, new energy and mobility, but the brief leaves room for any vision of a better future. The competition is open to designers, artists, architects and students worldwide, and the official terms state that there is no cost to participate.

The jury is unusually strong for a free competition, with names such as David Carson, Sean Perkins of North and Byoung Il Sun of the BI Poster Art Biennale, alongside design educators and agency leaders.

Key Dates

15 January 2027, 11:59 PM EDT — Entry deadline; late entries are not considered

23–24 March 2027 — Exhibition and prize-giving

Who Can Enter the Super South Poster Design Competition?

The competition is open to a global audience: graphic designers, artists, architects, students and anyone else with an idea for the future. Entrants under 18 need a release signed by a parent or guardian.

It is particularly relevant to:

  • Poster and graphic designers
  • Illustrators and typographers
  • Architects and urbanists who communicate ideas visually
  • Design students, who have their own prize

What Can You Enter?

Each entry is a vertical poster that responds to "Designing the Future We Imagine". Work must be original and must not have been exhibited before, including on social media, or have won an award.

The four suggested themes give useful starting points:

  • Circularity: products, cities or systems where nothing is wasted
  • Regenerative: design that repairs nature and communities rather than only reducing harm
  • New energy: how clean energy could change the way we live and move
  • Mobility: the future of transport, access and movement in cities and beyond

File Specifications

  • 24 × 36 inches (60.96 × 91.44 cm), portrait only
  • PDF, CMYK-compatible
  • 300 dpi, print-ready
  • Maximum 10 MB

Entry Fees

The official terms state that there are no restrictions on entry and no cost to participate. The submission form mentions completing a payment step, so read the form carefully when you enter.

What Do Selected Entrants Receive?

  • Platinum: $2,500
  • Gold: $1,000
  • Silver: $750
  • Bronze: $500
  • Student: $500
  • Exhibition: about 100 selected posters printed and shown at the Super South Summit at the Georgia Aquarium, Atlanta

Submission Requirements

Entries are submitted through the online form on the official competition page. Prepare the final poster as a print-ready PDF to the exact size, and check that type and images are high enough in resolution to print at 24 × 36 inches.

Important Rules

  • Work must be original.
  • Posters must not have been exhibited, including on social media, or awarded before.
  • Portrait format at 24 × 36 inches only.
  • Entries must arrive by 15 January 2027, 11:59 PM EDT.
  • The judges may reduce the number of posters exhibited.

When Will Entrants Be Notified?

The ten-person jury includes Adrian Caddy (Greenspace), David Carson, Lisa Babb (Georgia Tech, formerly Apple), Sam Eckersley (SCAD), Sean Perkins (North), Byoung Il Sun (BI Poster Art Biennale), Parisa Tashakori (CU Boulder), Agnieszka Ziemiszewska (Polish-Japanese Academy), Shaheed Rucker (Change-Makers Creative) and Patrizia Schopf (BrandCulture). Selected entrants are informed by email before 1 March 2027, when the finalists are announced.

Things to Consider

  • Stay unpublished. Do not share the poster on social media before the results, or it may be disqualified.
  • Pick one future and make it clear. A single strong idea reads better on a poster than a list of themes.
  • Design for print. The poster is printed at 24 × 36 inches; test it at full size before exporting.
  • Use the suggested themes as a starting point, not a limit.
  • Make it readable from a distance. The posters are shown in a busy summit venue, so the main idea should be clear from several metres away.
  • Students should enter. There is a dedicated $500 student prize.
