Larnaca Biennale 2027 Open Call
Open for entriesThe 5th Larnaca Biennale invites artists worldwide to propose work on "Metatopies: Geographies in Motion" for an exhibition in Larnaca, Cyprus, from 13 October 2027. Fee €50. Deadline: 31 March 2027.

The Larnaca Biennale 2027 is the fifth edition of the international contemporary art biennale in Larnaca, Cyprus, organised by the ARTION Cultural Association of Larnaca. A biennale is an exhibition held every two years. The 2027 edition runs from 13 October to 26 November 2027 in exhibition venues across the centre of Larnaca, and its open call accepts proposals from artists anywhere in the world until 31 March 2027.
The theme is "Metatopies: Geographies in Motion". It looks at movement, belonging, borders and shifting identities, and at how societies and places are reshaped by migration, ecological change, political realities and collective memory. For the first time, the biennale is curated by a duo: the art historian and curator Niki Papaspirou and the visual artist Marios Fournaris.
The open call is unusually broad. Professionals, amateurs, art students, designers and photographers can all apply, with no limits on medium, style or size, and installation, video and performance are explicitly included. The jury presents 13 awards at the opening.

- Individual artist: €50
- Group of two: €75
- Group of three to five: €100
Each fee covers a single proposal. Fees are not refundable.

- Video presentation: screening equipment for video works is provided by the organisers
- Framing for overseas artists: artists from abroad can send work unframed, and the organisers arrange framing or mounting

Submission Requirements
Applications are made through the official biennale website, and the form must be completed in English.

- Installations: photos, a 3D rendering or at least three photos of sketches, with up to 200 words on the proposal
- Video: a still image and a link, with up to 200 words; the video must be MP4 (H.264) and no longer than five minutes
- Performance: three photos, a video or link, and a statement of up to 200 words
Important Rules
- Applicants must be 18 or over by 31 March 2027.
- Artists pay for delivering and returning their works, or use a shipping company of their choice.
- Artists are responsible for the technical needs and materials of their works.
- The organisers accept no responsibility for damage or loss in transport, packaging or display, so insurance is recommended.
- Works on show are not for sale through the biennale.
- The selection committee's decisions are final.
When Will Applicants Be Notified?
Selected artists are informed by email by 15 May 2027. The winners of the 13 awards are announced at the opening ceremony on 13 October 2027.
Things to Consider
- Respond to the theme directly. "Geographies in Motion" asks about migration, borders and belonging; a short statement that makes the connection clear helps the curators.
- Weigh the fee per proposal. Each proposal costs €50 or more, so choose your strongest idea rather than sending several.
- Send the right images. The 1,800-pixel minimum on the short side is stricter than many calls.
- Plan shipping and insurance. Overseas artists can save on transport by sending unframed work.
- Ask about support for ambitious work. Large installations, outdoor works and performances may qualify for travel and accommodation support.
