The Fumetto 2027 International Comic Competition invites comic artists from around the world to create a comic based on this year's theme, “Blubb.” Organized by Fumetto Comic Festival Lucerne, the annual competition encourages participants to interpret the theme freely, from fish and air bubbles to deep-sea adventures, real-estate bubbles and melting glaciers.
The competition accepts both analog and digital comics and includes three age categories. A selection of 45 works will be shortlisted for exhibition during the Fumetto Comic Festival Lucerne 2027, which takes place from March 6–14, 2027.
The competition is open internationally and is divided into three age categories: participants aged 18 and over, participants aged 13–17, and participants aged 12 and under. School classes are also welcome to participate.
Each participant may submit one comic of up to four pages. The work must be in A4 or A3 format and can be created traditionally or digitally. AI-generated work is not permitted.
The 2027 competition theme is “Blubb,” an onomatopoeic word intended to inspire a broad range of visual interpretations. Fumetto suggests ideas including schools of fish, 1990s spinach advertisements, air or real-estate bubbles, deep-sea diving and glacier melt, but participants are free to approach the theme in their own way.

Things to Consider
Best for: Comic artists, illustrators, students, emerging creators and anyone interested in visual storytelling.
The competition is centered entirely around comic storytelling, rather than single illustrations. Participants are required to create a multi-panel comic of up to four pages based on the theme “Blubb.”
The three age categories make the competition open to a particularly broad range of participants, from children and teenagers to adult comic creators. School classes can also participate collectively.
A key consideration is the submission format. The work must be an A4 or A3 comic with a maximum of four pages, and only one comic can be submitted. AI-generated work is not accepted.
Selected work receives an opportunity for physical exhibition at the Fumetto Comic Festival Lucerne 2027. The 45 shortlisted original works will be exhibited at the festival, while non-selected submissions will be incorporated into the exhibition digitally.
Before entering, consider whether your work fits the “Blubb” theme, meets the four-page limit and can be submitted in the required A4 or A3 format.
