The French Design Awards 2027 are an international design competition covering nine fields: architecture, interior, product, packaging, fashion, landscape, conceptual, UI and UX design. Despite the name, the competition is open to designers in every country.

The awards belong to International Awards Associate (IAA), a group that also runs the MUSE, Vega, NYX, TITAN, NY and LIT awards, among others. Over eleven years, IAA's competitions have received more than 100,000 entries from 124 countries, judged by more than 200 international jurors.

It is important to understand the format before entering. The French Design Awards are a scored competition. Jurors give each entry points, and every entry that reaches a certain score receives a title: Platinum, Gold or Silver. The best entry in each program is named Design of the Year. Many entries can win, which makes the award most useful for studios and freelancers who want an independent credential for portfolios, proposals and press releases. It is different from highly selective annuals that accept only a small share of entries.

  • Small studios building a list of credentials

  • Interior designers and architects
  • UI and UX designers
  • Design students with finished projects

What Can You Enter?

  • Silver Winner (65–74 points): certificate, badge, profile and interview eligibility
  • Design of the Year: all of the above, plus the Maia statuette, a mention in the press release, a newsletter feature and promotion through media partners

Winners also stay permanently in the online winners' archive.

Submission Requirements

Entries are made online. For each project, prepare:

  • High-quality images of the finished work
  • A written synopsis of up to 350 words describing the project
  • Credits for the design team and client

Projects cannot be changed or modified for the competition, and entries cannot be edited after submission.

Important Rules

  • Work must have been produced within the last five calendar years.
  • The synopsis must stay within 350 words.
  • Fees are charged per entry and per category.
  • The same project can be entered in more than one category at a reduced rate.

When Will Entrants Be Notified?

An international jury scores each entry independently. Results for all entrants are published on 8 March 2027, with winners presented in online galleries alongside their project details.

Things to Consider

  • Know what you are buying. This is a scored award where many entries can win a title; weigh the cost against how you will use the credential.
  • Enter early to save. The difference between the first and last deadline is $40 per entry.
  • Write a clear synopsis. Explain the brief, the context, the design decisions and the result. Concrete details score better than general claims.
  • Invest in images. Professional photography makes a visible difference to how a project is scored.
  • Check everything before paying. Entries cannot be changed after submission.
