The BAFTA Games Awards are among the most prestigious awards in the games industry, presented by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. The 2027 awards cover games released in the UK between 15 November 2025 and 19 November 2026, in categories from Game Design and Artistic Achievement to Narrative, Music and Debut Game. The first entry deadline has passed, but games released between 1 August and 19 November 2026 can still be entered until 6 November 2026. The ceremony takes place in London on 14 April 2027.

A game does not need to be British to enter: any game released in the UK in the eligibility period qualifies, so studios from around the world take part.

Key Dates

18 September 2026 — Deadline for games released 15 November 2025 – 31 July 2026 (passed)
6 November 2026 — Entry and payment deadline for games released 1 August – 19 November 2026
23 November – 2 December 2026 — Round One voting

Who Can Enter the BAFTA Games Awards?

Developers and publishers of any game released, or due to be released, in the UK between 15 November 2025 and 19 November 2026. Remasters are generally not eligible, and a game cannot be entered twice except in the Evolving Game category.

It is particularly relevant to:

  • Independent studios with a game released in the second half of 2026
  • Game designers and art directors wanting recognition for their craft
  • Debut teams, who have their own category
  • Publishers with UK releases

What Can You Enter?

Each game can be entered in up to four of these categories: Animation, Artistic Achievement, Audio Achievement, Debut Game, Family, Game Beyond Entertainment, Game Design, Multiplayer, Music, Narrative, New Intellectual Property and Technical Achievement. Eligible games are also entered in Best Game and British Game at no extra cost, and performers can be entered in the Performer categories for free. Evolving Game has its own entry.

Entry Fees

  • Standard fee: £475 + VAT (£570) per game, covering up to four categories
  • Additional categories: £150 + VAT (£180) each
  • Evolving Game: £300 + VAT (£350)
  • Small studios: independent studios with 1–20 employees, without publisher backing, can apply for a 25% reduction, and BAFTA invites developers who cannot afford entry to contact them

What Do Winners Receive?

  • A BAFTA award, presented at the ceremony in London
  • Nomination and longlist recognition, widely reported in the games press
  • Visibility with players, press and the wider creative industries

Submission Requirements

Enter through BAFTA's online entry system in two stages, then pay before the deadline. Longlisted games must provide copies for jury consideration by 16 December 2026.

Why Enter?

A BAFTA nomination is recognised across the games industry and beyond, and craft categories such as Game Design and Artistic Achievement let smaller teams compete with large studios on the quality of their work. The reduced fee for small independent studios makes entry more realistic for indie teams.

About BAFTA

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts is an arts charity that supports and celebrates film, games and television. Its games awards, first presented in 2004, are voted on by industry members and juries, and have honoured many of the most influential games of the past two decades.

Things to Consider

  • Check your release date: the 6 November deadline only covers games released from 1 August 2026.
  • Choose categories wisely: four are included in the fee.
  • Prepare access codes: voters need to play your game.
  • Ask about the reduction: small independent studios can apply for 25% off.
  • Pay on time: the payment deadline is also 6 November.
