The Anthology Photography Competition 2026 is an open photography award run by Anthology, an independent arts and culture magazine. The theme is "The World As You See It", and the competition is open to photographers of any level, from anywhere in the world. The winner receives a €500 cash prize and editorial coverage in a future issue of the magazine.

The brief is deliberately wide. The organisers want photographs that show how you see the world around you, and they give extra merit to creative interpretations of the theme. Street, documentary, landscape, portrait, abstract and conceptual work can all fit, as long as the image says something about your own way of looking.

Entry costs €18 per image, and there is no limit on how many images you can enter. Each photograph is judged on its own by a panel of independent judges.

Key Dates

1 May 2026 — Entries open
30 November 2026 — Entry deadline
After judging — Winner announced and all entrants notified by email

Who Can Enter the Anthology Photography Competition?

Photographers of any level can enter, whatever their nationality or where they live. There is no age limit.

It is particularly relevant to:

  • Amateur photographers looking for a first publication
  • Street and documentary photographers
  • Fine art and conceptual photographers
  • Students of photography
  • Phone photographers with a strong eye

What Can You Enter?

Each entry is a single photograph that responds to "The World As You See It". You can submit as many entries as you like. Work must be your own original photography; stock photography is not accepted.

Reading the Brief

The theme is about point of view rather than subject. A familiar street, a family kitchen or a view from a train window can answer it as well as a distant landscape, if the photograph shows something only you noticed. Some ways in:

  • A personal place: somewhere you know well, seen in a way others would miss
  • A detail: a small moment or texture that stands for a bigger idea
  • A perspective: an unusual angle, framing or distance that changes how a scene reads
  • A constructed image: composites and manipulated images are accepted, so a made image can express how you see the world

Because each entry is judged alone, the photograph has to carry its idea without a caption or series around it.

Editing and Manipulation

Technically manipulated work is accepted, including abstract, panoramic, stitched and composite images. Generative AI is not permitted.

Entry Fees

  • Standard fee: €18 per image
  • Group fees: available on request from the magazine

Fees are non-refundable.

What Do Selected Entrants Receive?

  • Winner: €500 cash prize
  • Publication: editorial coverage of the winning photographer in a future issue of Anthology magazine

Submission Requirements

Entries are uploaded through the official competition page. Before uploading, export a version of each photograph that meets the size limits below, and keep the full-resolution original safely in case you are shortlisted.

File Specifications

  • JPEG or PNG
  • 72 dpi for the entry
  • Maximum 4 MB per file
  • No visible watermarks

Finalists are asked to send the original file at 300 dpi in RAW, JPEG or TIFF format.

Important Rules

  • Entries must be original work by the entrant.
  • Stock photography is not accepted.
  • Generative AI is not permitted.
  • Visible watermarks are not allowed.
  • The judges' decision is final.

When Will Entrants Be Notified?

A panel of independent judges reviews all entries after the deadline. When the result is announced, every entrant is notified by email.

Things to Consider

  • Interpret the theme personally. "The World As You See It" rewards a clear point of view more than a technically perfect but generic image.
  • Enter your strongest single images. Each photograph is judged on its own, so choose pictures that work without a series around them.
  • Keep your originals. Finalists must supply high-resolution files, so do not delete RAW files.
  • Budget your entries. At €18 per image, decide in advance how many photographs to enter.
  • Remove watermarks before uploading.
  • Look at your images small. Judges often see entries on screen first; a photograph that reads clearly as a thumbnail has an advantage.
  • Give each file a clear name. It makes it easier to match a request for an original to the right image.
  • Enter early. The page gives no closing time on 30 November, so do not leave it to the last evening.
