International Triennial of Textile Arts 2027 Open Call
Opens soonOpens 11 JanThe International Triennial of Textile Arts 2027 in Szombathely, Hungary, invites textile artists to apply with one work on the theme "Interwoven / Generation". Applications 11 January – 8 February 2027.

The International Triennial of Textile Arts 2027 is the ninth edition of a major textile art exhibition in Hungary, organised by the Cultural Foundation for the Textile Arts in Budapest and shown at the Gallery of Szombathely, part of the Savaria Museum. A triennial is an exhibition held every three years. The 2027 exhibition runs from 1 October 2027 to 19 March 2028, and applications open online on 11 January 2027 and close at midnight on 8 February 2027.
The theme for 2027 is "Interwoven / Generation" (in Hungarian, Emberöltő, a word for the span of a human generation), written by the art historian and critic Attila Horányi. The organisers describe it as open to many readings: the length of a life, networks of memory, and the relationships between generations. Works can refer to the material qualities of textile or simply use the language of textile-making.
The triennial sets out to blur the line between applied and fine art. That is why it has three separate categories, from large wall and spatial works to textile design and miniatures, and why it accepts both one-off artworks and prototypes for production.

Who Can Apply to the International Triennial of Textile Arts?
The call is open to professional textile artists, fine and applied artists, members of artistic organisations, and students of higher education institutions in the arts. Who can enter depends on the category:
- Wall and Spatial Textile: professional artists living and working in EU member states
- Textile Design: professional artists living and working in EU member states, individually or as a group
- Miniature Textile: professional artists from Hungary and from any other country
So artists outside the European Union can apply, but only in the Miniature Textile category.
What Can You Submit?
Each applicant submits one work in one category. Only completed works made between 2024 and 2027 are accepted, and they must relate to the theme or have been made for it. There are no restrictions on materials or techniques.
Categories and Sizes
- Wall and Spatial Textile: two- or three-dimensional works in unique techniques, traditional or experimental; minimum 1 m², maximum 250 × 250 × 250 cm
- Textile Design: hand-crafted or industrially made home textiles, garments, accessories, objects and spatial installations, as one-off pieces, small series or prototypes for mass production; maximum 250 × 250 × 250 cm. A group of one to three garments, a sample collection, a product line or a collection counts as one work.
- Miniature Textile: minimum 20 × 20 × 20 cm, maximum 30 × 30 × 30 cm; described by the organisers as the genre for free experimentation
Works outside the size limits are not considered.
Application Fees
The 2027 call for entries does not mention an application fee. Selected artists are responsible for delivering their works to Szombathely and collecting them afterwards, so the main cost is transport.
What Do Selected Artists Receive?
- Exhibition: a place in the International Triennial of Textile Arts 2027, shown for almost six months in Szombathely
- Catalogue: the work, a portrait and a short biography in the exhibition catalogue
- Prizes: sponsors award prizes in each category; details of the previous edition's awards are on the triennial's website
Submission Requirements
Applications are made only online at textiltriennale.hu, between 11 January and 8 February 2027.

Information in the Form
Category, title in Hungarian and English, dimensions, materials, techniques, year, photographer, a statement of up to 700 characters in Hungarian and English, approximate weight, value in euros and installation notes. Biographical details include education and a list of exhibitions and awards; the published biography is limited to 1,100 characters.
Important Rules
- One work per applicant, made between 2024 and 2027.
- Students must credit the institution, year of study, supervisor and course if the work was made in a degree programme.
- Joint works need a separate application from each artist.
- Submitted images may be used in the catalogue and in promotion without fees.
- Works that differ from the photographs on arrival can be excluded.
- No works are returned before the exhibition closes.
When Will Applicants Be Notified?
A professional jury selects the works from the application documents and photographs. Its decision is final. All applicants are informed by 31 March 2027, and selected artists receive the delivery address and shipping instructions in the same message.
Things to Consider
- Check your category first. If you live outside the EU, Miniature Textile is your route in.
- Measure carefully. Size rules are strict, and the minimum sizes (1 m² for wall and spatial, 20 cm for miniature) matter as much as the maximums.
- Photograph the finished piece professionally. Images below the required quality are left out of the catalogue.
- Write the statement in both languages. You need 700 characters in Hungarian and English; prepare a translation in advance.
- Mind the short window. The form is only open from 11 January to 8 February 2027.
