Who Can Enter the Graphis Photography Awards?
All photographers and agencies worldwide, from independent photographers to studios and advertising agencies. It suits:
- Commercial and advertising photographers
- Editorial photographers with published work
- Fine art photographers with a strong personal series
- Agencies entering campaigns on behalf of clients
What Can You Enter?
A single image can be a photograph that stands alone, a poster or a single ad. A series can be a campaign, a photographic series, or a book, brochure or magazine with a cover and up to six interior spreads. Film and video entries, such as commercials or motion work, are entered as links.
Awards
Entries are judged for Platinum, Gold and Silver awards. Graphis publishes winning work, giving it visibility with art directors, designers and clients who use its books and website as a reference.
Is It Worth Entering?
The fees are high for individual photographers, especially for single images. The awards make most sense for professionals and agencies whose clients value international recognition, and for photographers who can use the exposure in a portfolio or pitch. Enter only your strongest work, and consider membership if you plan several entries.
Preparing Your Entry
Submit high-quality files and choose the correct discipline. For series, edit tightly: a strong set of five images can be better than seven with weaker ones. For commissioned work, check that you have permission from the client to enter it.
Other Graphis Competitions
Graphis also runs awards for posters, design, new talent and advertising, each with its own deadline and fees.
Choosing What to Enter
Look at your work from the past year with an art director's eye. Which images would make someone stop turning the pages of an annual? Commercial work should be well crafted and also show an idea, not only technical polish. Fine art entries are strongest when they come from a coherent series rather than a single lucky frame. For advertising, enter the campaign as a series if the strength lies in how the images work together. Ask a colleague to help you choose, and resist entering too many similar pieces, as each entry has its own fee.
Credits and Permissions
Before you enter commissioned work, check that the client and any agency agree, and gather full credits: client, agency, art director, creative director and any collaborators. Accurate credits matter if your work is selected and published, and they help the jury understand who did what.
Things to Consider
