Eulsukdo Land-Ecological Art Open Call 2026
Opens soonOpens 2 NovThe Eulsukdo open call invites artists, architects and designers worldwide to propose a land-ecological artwork for a migratory bird island in Busan, with KRW 380 million in support. Deadline: 22 November 2026.

Eulsukdo is an estuarine island at the mouth of the Nakdong River in Busan, South Korea, and one of the country's most important habitats for migratory birds. Busan Metropolitan City is inviting individuals and teams from around the world to propose a site-responsive land-ecological artwork for the island: a work that responds to its ecology, landscape, history and changing environment while minimising disturbance to nature. One proposal will be realised with KRW 380 million in support. Submissions are open from 2 to 22 November 2026.
The call is open to artists, landscape architects, architects and designers, and interdisciplinary teams are especially welcome.

Who Can Apply to the Eulsukdo Open Call?
Individuals or teams professionally active in art, landscape architecture, architecture, design or related fields, from any country. There is no limit on team size, and each applicant may submit one proposal. It is particularly relevant to:
- Land artists and environmental artists
- Landscape architects and architects interested in art
- Interdisciplinary teams combining ecology, design and art
What Can You Propose?
An original, site-responsive artwork for Eulsukdo. Because the island is a bird habitat, construction and installation are not allowed from November to February, when migratory birds arrive in large numbers. Proposals should respect the ecosystem and work with it, not against it.
Entry Fees
The official page does not list an application fee. Check the 64-page Open Call Guidelines for all conditions.
What Does the Winner Receive?
- KRW 380 million covering all aspects of production, implementation, installation and stays
- Technical and safety reviews and insurance support
- Realisation of the work on Eulsukdo, opening in the first half of 2027
Submission Requirements
- Official forms, with templates provided
- A proposal of about 20 pages, A4 landscape, in Korean or English
- Submission by email to the address on the official website
Why Apply?
Large, fully funded commissions for ecological art are rare, and this one comes with a remarkable site. A realised work on Eulsukdo would be a major credential for any artist or designer working at the intersection of landscape and art.
How to Write a Strong Proposal
Start with research: the island's birds, plants, tides and history, and the restrictions on building during migration season. Show how your work can be built with minimal impact, maintained over time and enjoyed by visitors. Clear drawings, a construction method and a phased budget will make the proposal credible. Explain in a few sentences why this work belongs on this island and nowhere else.
Working With a Protected Habitat
Eulsukdo is part of a protected estuary landscape, and the call puts ecological care at the centre. Expect questions about materials, foundations, maintenance and how visitors will move around the work without disturbing birds. Proposals that use local, low-impact or reversible materials, and that consider how the work will age and eventually be removed, are likely to be stronger. Consider involving an ecologist or landscape architect in your team.
Who Is on the Team?
Interdisciplinary teams are welcome and often make the strongest proposals for a project of this size: an artist for the concept, a landscape architect or architect for the site, and an engineer for structure and safety.
Things to Consider
- Ecology first: no construction from November to February.
- Teams welcome: artists, architects and designers together.
- Language: Korean or English.
- Read the guidelines: the 64-page PDF sets the rules.
- Deadline: 22 November 2026, midnight Korean time.
