The Annecy International Animation Film Festival, known simply as the Annecy Festival, is the world's most important event for animation. The 2027 edition is listed for 13 to 19 June 2027 in Annecy, a lakeside town in the French Alps. For a week, studios, directors, animators, students and fans from around the world gather for competitions, premieres of feature films and series, work-in-progress presentations, talks, and MIFA, the industry's leading animation market.

The dates come from the regional tourism offices; the festival confirms them on its own website.

About the Annecy Festival

The festival was founded in 1960 as an offshoot of the Cannes Film Festival, and was held every two years until it became annual in 1998. It is organised by CITIA, the city's centre for the image and animation. Its top award, the Cristal, is one of the most respected prizes in animation, and many films that premiere at Annecy go on to major international success.

The festival covers every form of animation: feature films, short films, TV series, commissioned films, graduation films, VR and immersive works. The MIFA market, held at the same time, is where studios, broadcasters, distributors and streaming platforms meet to finance and sell projects, and where many studios recruit.

What to Expect

  • Official competitions: features, shorts, TV and commissioned films, graduation films and more
  • Premieres and work in progress: first looks at upcoming films and series from major studios
  • MIFA: the international animation market, with pitches, meetings and a recruitment area
  • Conferences and masterclasses with directors, animators and artists
  • Open-air screenings on the lakeside lawn of the Pâquier, free for everyone
  • Exhibitions and events across the town

2027 Programme

The festival is listed from Sunday 13 to Saturday 19 June 2027. The official selection is usually announced in spring, and the full schedule of screenings, talks and MIFA events follows before the festival. Many events need an accreditation, and some screenings need a reservation even with one.

Who Is It For?

  • Animators, illustrators and storyboard artists
  • Animation and film students, including those with graduation films
  • Character designers, background painters and motion designers
  • Producers, studios and anyone looking for work in animation
  • Families and animation fans, who can attend free open-air screenings

Tickets and Accreditation

Most professionals and students attend with an accreditation. In 2026 there were three main types: Festival accreditation, MIFA accreditation and a student accreditation, each with a daily number of screening reservations, and with early-bird prices for those who registered early. Buyers and journalists apply separately. The public can also buy tickets for individual screenings, and residents of Haute-Savoie have their own pass. Accreditation for 2027 is expected to open early in the year.

Tips for Animators and Students

If you want to work in animation, the Annecy Festival is the most useful week of the year. The MIFA recruitment area and the studio presentations let you meet recruiters in person; bring a short, focused showreel and a portfolio on a tablet or in print. Many studios also hold portfolio reviews or networking sessions, which are announced before the festival.

Watch the graduation film competition. It shows the best work from animation schools around the world, and it is a good benchmark if you are a student yourself. If your school makes graduation films, check the deadlines for the next edition's submissions.

Finally, take time to enjoy the town. The evening open-air screenings by the lake are one of the festival's best traditions, and conversations in the cafés and on the lakeside often lead to collaborations.

Planning Your Visit

The festival is spread across several venues in the town centre, with screenings in cinemas and theatres and the MIFA market at the Impérial Palace by the lake. Plan your days around the screenings you most want to see, and reserve them as soon as booking opens. Keep some time free for chance encounters: talks, studio presentations and the lakeside screenings often turn out to be highlights. If you are attending for work, prepare your meetings in advance through the MIFA platform.

Things to Know

  • Book early: hotels and apartments fill up months in advance; many visitors stay in nearby towns.
  • Reservations: popular screenings and talks fill up quickly, so reserve as soon as booking opens.
  • Weather: June is warm, with occasional mountain storms.
  • Walking: most venues are within walking distance of each other.
